宿舍管理系统是一个教育单位不可缺少的部分,它的内容对于学校的决策者和管理者来说都至关重要,所以宿舍管理系统应该能够为用户提供充足的信息和快捷的查询手段。但一直以来人们使用传统人工的方式管理文件信息，这种管理方式存在着许多缺点,如:效率低、保密性差,另外时间一长,将产生大量的文件和数据,这对于查找、更新和维护都带来了不少的困难。随着科学技术的不断提高,计算机科学日渐成熟,其强大的功能已为人们深刻认识,它已进入人类社会的各个领域并发挥着越来越重要的作用。作为计算机应用的一部分,使用计算机对宿舍信息进行管理,俱有着手工管理所无法比拟的优点.例如:检索迅速、查找方便、可靠性高、存储量大、保密性好、寿命长、成本低等。这些优点能够极大地提高宿舍管理的效率,也是企业的科学化、正规化管理,与世界接轨的重要条件。

目前,全国计算机越来越普及,几乎每个学校都配有计算机,为我的这套软件提供了硬件环境。以计算机为基础的管理系统使教师和管理者摆脱了那种繁杂、易错的记录及管理方式，通过计算机以及配套的软件，用户可以采用全新的方式从不同的地方存取各种信息。从客户/服务器方式上发展起来的框架结构为我提供了开发本系统的基础。
就学校自身来说,它也是需要这样一个软件的。我们在计算机还没有普及之前,信息都必须通过在纸上填写来实现, 这样既浪费又容易出错。随着信息时代的来临, 我们的各项工作都要讲求效率, 宿舍管理也不例外, 这就为我的软件提供了使用群体。本系统的使用大大节省了时间以及材料资源，切实从日常工作中落实可持续发展，开源节流。
